1 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;
2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;
5 We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
God opened up His Word to Daniel
Daniel understood what was, what is, and what was to be and knew that they were far from being lined up with God’s plan.
Look at vs 3 where Daniel responded to this revelation from God's Word and how he set his heart with a renewed purpose to joining with God in what was planned for the children of Israel.
The scripture that Daniel saw the 70 year period and a revelation of God's purpose toward his people.

One day, the Holy Spirit convicted me of my sin and my need for a Saviour. When the Holy Spirit convicts you, He will also introduce you to Jesus. When I came to the place where I knew that I needed help that could only come from God, through His Son Jesus, I walked down to that altar, and confessed that I needed Him to forgive me of all my sins. I could feel the change and the relief from the burden I had carried as I confessed that Jesus is Lord. This is my personal testimony, but it is not unique, many others have experienced this same great Saviour.
